Traditionally when people think of Christmas, they think of a Christmas tree, presents, the food that’s being cooked and the eggnog their going to drink. I believe some times we get so caught up on tradition that we forget the simple things about Christmas that matters.
Below are 6 simple things to remember about Christmas:
- The Season of Giving: As millions of people around the world celebrate Christmas this year, there’s at least one child in your neighborhood who doesn’t have any toys under the tree for Christmas. If you find yourself in a giving spirit, consider donating toys for those who don’t have. I’m sure this will place a smile on a child’s face.
- Being Grateful: Some gifts can’t be brought. Sometimes the best gifts are the people and things around you such as family and friends, the company of a loved one and having good mental health. I’m grateful for my family, friends, good health and for God being a major part of my life, without Him I don’t know where I would be.
- Christmas Phone Calls: It’s amazing how the holidays have a way of bringing the family together. If there’s someone who you haven’t spoken to in a while, consider giving them a call and telling them “Merry Christmas”. I’m sure it will place a smile on their face knowing that you thought about them.
- Bonding Time: Don’t let the tearing away of gift wrappers be only highlight of the day. Consider bonding with those whom you love. Perhaps you brought a new game system for your child; why not play with them? Watch a movie with the family, play a board game or something. A little bonding never hurts.
- Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ: Over 2,000 years ago Jesus died on the cross so you and I can have the most precious gift any person could ever receive. The gift of eternal life. It’s available to any person who wants to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. Don’t worry; this gift is free and has already been paid for.
- The Birth of Jesus: I encourage you to educate your children about the true meaning of Christmas. As a Child, it’s easy to get caught up on gifts and presents that Jesus is left out of the equation. Don’t ‘x’ Christ out of Christmas, share with birth of Christ with your children.
